Material Bonding

Bonding materials to produce custom components and assemblies is a Meadex speciality and we employ a number of different methods – both chemical and mechanical – depending on the materials being used and the bond strength required.

Working with a wide range of compounders, Meadex are also happy to advise you and work with you to select the right materials and bonding method to ensure your end product will do the job.  We offer injection, compression and transfer moulding and quality assured inspection and finishing services to complete the process.

Polymers

The bond strength required will determine whether a simple adhesive bond or solvent cement will suffice, or whether a combination of a chemical and mechanical bond might be necessary.  This varies from material to material though and some polymers can be especially difficult to bond using adhesive alone – e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene, HDPE.  Contact us for advice on the best materials and bonding method to use to ensure the bond strength will withstand the mechanical stresses in its intended operating environment.

Rubber to Metal Bonding

Metals differ in their chemical composition and heat resistance and understanding how different metals react and perform with different rubbers is vital.  Some metals and rubbers require specific mechanical or chemical pre-treatment steps, including priming and degreasing, which need to be factored into the production process.  It is possible to bond almost any elastomer to almost any metal though – using specific compounds and material grades and the right bonding and moulding methods.  We can work with aluminium, plated metals and alloys, mild steel, stainless steel and titanium as well as a full range of elastomers.  Contact us to discuss your requirements and component specifications and for advice on specifying the right materials.

Anti Vibration Mounts rubber, silicone, plastic moulding experts UK

Anti-Vibration Mounts

We manufacture anti-vibration bushes, stops, springs and mounts.  With specialist equipment and expertise in rubber and metal bonding, we have worked with automotive, medical and sub-sea clients to manufacture anti-vibration components including seals, valves and connectors for valve assemblies, rollers and shafts.  We have also worked with clients on sound proofing projects.  For advice on choosing the right materials and bonding methods when designing an anti-vibration mount or other component, please contact us as early as you can in the process.

Silicone Bonding

Bonding silicone to metal, rubber or plastic simply requires understanding each of the different materials and their specific limitations, pre-treatment requirements and bonding options.  We specialise in silicone and in bonding and so are perfectly placed to manufacture bonded silicone components in our UK facilities and have a Class 7 Clean Room with highly automated inspection and finishing equipment to complete the process.  We manufacture bonded components using silicone, fluorosilicone FVMQ and platinum silicone.
